Greystone appraisals LLC was founded in 2010 to serve the appraisal needs of individuals, organizations and institutions in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. and mid Atlantic region. Greystone provides appraisal services for insurance, estate planning, equitable distribution, dispersal, estate probate, gifting, and donations. Greystone provides inventorying of estates, advises clients on downsizing and assists clients positioning their personal property for sale in appropriate sales markets.
When appropriate, Greystone Appraisals can provide private and confidential introductory contact for clients to museums, historical societies and similar institutions to initiate loan and gift planning.
Consultation for collection management includes access to a national and international network of specialty designated appraisers, stewardship and allied field contacts for conservation, art storage, transportation, and museum loaning.
Laurene A Sherlock, Principal
Laurene A. Sherlock is a qualified appraiser and accredited member of the American Society of Appraisers, the nation's oldest multidisciplinary society that educates, tests, and accredits appraisers. Membership is predicated upon an extensive candidate member education member program, mentored apprenticeship, accrued experience, testing in areas of expertise, written examinations, peer review and evaluation of reports, reaccreditation and continuing education requirements.
Laurene conforms to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) as promulgated by The Appraisal Standards Board of The Appraisal Foundation and the Code of Ethics of the American Society of Appraisers.
Laurene holds the Personal Property discipline in Antique and Decorative Arts, specializing in 18th and 19th century American and Continental Decorative Arts.
She has served in numerous conference planning capacities and chaired a candidate education accreditation program in the Washington DC metro area.
She has represented the American Society of Appraisers in public relations, print, visual, and broadcast media. She is familiar with public speaking on the appraisal profession.
She was awarded her B.A. in Art History from George Washington University in 1975. Undergraduate study included associated study at The Wallace Collection and The Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Graduate certification included the London Academy of Arts program in 1979.
